COURSE DIVISION
Starting in 2020, the unique hands-on courses of Sciences of the Home are offered as certificate courses in Burhani College.
Courses are divided into modules across three broad faculties – Culinary Skills, Mastering the Castle, and Textile Crafts. Each module can be completed separately, and multiple modules can be completed over a period of time. Our courses are either comprehensive long courses, compact short courses, or energizing one-day workshops.
Our visiting and guest faculty are leading practitioners of home science in their chosen fields. They come from all over India and overseas, from elite institutes and rich and diverse backgrounds. They bring passion and dedication to their skill and through Sciences of the Home impart these to our participants, who graduate with confidence.
SIGNIFICANCE
His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin , and his illustrious son and successor, His Holiness Dr. Syedna Aali Qadr Mufaddal Saifuddin have always encouraged women of the Dawoodi Bohra Community to acquire a well-rounded practical education, with a strong focus on Home Sciences. It is through their noble vision that women of the Community are equipped to gain economic prosperity while maintaining their dignity and modesty, better their environment and lead a serene, peaceful, productive, stress-free family life.
It was this noble vision that led to the establishment of “Sciences of the Home,” a program that provides state of the art, skill-based learning to the women of the Dawoodi Bohra Community.
The roots of this noble vision can be traced back to the birth of Islam, in the pious acts of Maulatuna Fatema az-ZahraAS , who herself kneaded bread and nurtured Imam HasanAS and Imam HusainAS , and led an exemplary yet simple life in Rasulullah’sSAW and Maulana Ali ibn Abi Talib’sAS households.
A woman is an integral pillar of society. She makes the house a home. She is multi-talented and multi-tasking. When a woman is healthy, skillful, and dynamic in all aspects – physical, mental, emotional, physiological, and sociological, she catalyzes positive growth and wellness in her family and her environment.
Putting this vision into action, the Sciences of the Home team of volunteers under the patronage of the Amatullah Aaisaheba Memorial Trust, started various skill-building courses for women of the Dawoodi Bohra Community. Today, after seven years, more than two thousand Dawoodi Bohra women of all ages have gained or improved their skills through our classes, and upwards of 60% of course participants have gone on to become successful entrepreneurs and confident, accomplished homemakers.
